With more than 2.7 million household now suffering from water shortage, South is now being described as facing the worst drought to enter its region in almost four decades.
According to Mabaso spokesperson for the local government department in KwaZulu-Natal, the livelihood of those in KwaZulu-Natal and Free State is currently being affected.

“The dams are at an all-time low. This is an epic drought and [the] government is doing the best it can do. As you can imagine, it requires a lot of resources, and it’s impacting everyone, rich and poor,” Mabaso said.

$26 million has already been allocated to KwaZulu-Natal with hope that the arid situation might be mitigated.
